Spaceman From Mars Arrives In New York!

The famous Spacemartian from Mars arrived today in New York only to find that no one remembers all that much about him, but what they do remember, he would have them forget!

Don't be fooled, this Martian is one of Earth's greatest enemies! In the 80s or whatever this very Martian was involved in the attacks on BDC's website with Valkyrie! He also helped A-Dizzle or whatever and that other guy.

Here he is in a recent New York meeting with President Bill Clinton (Top).

New Nintendo VP of Licensing

As of March 5, 2007, Steve Singer will replace Juana Tingdale as Nintendo's new Vice President of Licensing. Tingdale worked for Nintendo for 22 years and is now retiring. The Licensing department is responsible for securing deals for new products, both software and accessories, for the Wii and DS. This is why every third party game has "Licensed by Nintendo" at the beginning.

Singer is the current VP and General Manager of Nintendo Latin America.

This could possibly affect what type of games Nintendo will be able to acquire in the future. Most games already announced for the Wii should stay with the console, but depending on how Singer runs the department, Nintendo could work to gain more exclusive deals with developers or to start relationships with developers of more adult games that are not traditionally found on Nintendo consoles.

The Gamecube had a reputation as a "kiddie console" and the Wii already seems to be working to get out from under this label with games like Red Steel and Far Cry Vengeance, as well as The Godfather: Blackhand Edition, which was recently announced for the console and has a release date of March 20, 2007.

Curious as to how the Wii controller talks to the Wii? Thought the sensor bar took in all the data? You might be surprised to find out that the sensor bar doesn't receive data at all! The sensor bar actually sends out data. Well, not data exactly but infrared light. That light is then picked up the Wiimote which used that light to calculate how far away and in which direction the Wiimote is facing.

You can't see infrared light with the human eye because of the wavelength the light is at. Cameras can pick up this wavelength though. Check out the picture above to see the light as it is sent out of the sensor bar. Pretty neat, isn't it?

Rumor Killed...Zelda to only feature one player.

A lot of people around the internet have been up in arms about a recent rumor that the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would feature a unannounced multi-player mode.

While we hate to be the bad news blog, we can officially denounce that rumor thanks to a recent posting on the Japanese site for Twilight Princess.

We took a screen shot of the Japanese info page for the game. As you can see toward the bottom of the page we have the number one followed by what looks like an upside down Y. The upside down Y is actually the Japanese character for person or people. Thus, the site clearly states the game will only support one player.

While we hate to break the news, I can actually say that I am quite surprised Nintendo didn't throw in a "Tingle" mode similar to what was in Wind Waker if you plugged a GBA into the GCN with a link cable. It seems like the perfect opportunity to show off some DS-Wii connectivity.

EDIT 8: 9:11 Looks like somebody screwed up royally. GWN, the main source for all Nintendo news on the internet right now was using a feed from June to give live updates on the conference. Since no large blogs have press in Japan, pretty much the entire internet assumed GWN was at the conference and had correct info. This looks like it was incorrect. The latest reports have alleged that Nintendo's conference is ACTUALLY 3 hours from now. Guys, I will try to stay up and get an update in, however I have two exams tomorrow and really need some rest. Sorry about the wrong information. Again, I will continute to post more information tonight as it becomes available.

Weird DS WiFi Menu Found!

This video details a strange, hard to access feature called "Simple Start" that has been found in the WiFi setup menu on DS wifi games. It asks for the user to press a "simple start" button then eventually fails. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't say much more, but I think the author was a bit over-zealous claiming nothing can be done.

A tell-all look at the new Zelda for everyone's favorite handheld! You seem to control Link and his boat with the stylus in a manner close to that of Star Fox Command. The battle system seems very similar to SFC also, except that there is no seperate "battle arena." Most of the actual text is unreadable, but the gameplay looks a lot better than described. Overall, the video is very exciting. Can't wait for this game to hit shelves this next year!

Red Steel to feature "Free-Hand" swordplay!

Ubisoft has just confirmed that Red Steel has seen a major rehaul in gameplay. The sword fighting in the game will not be entirely free-hand. In previous builds of the game, the player only could choose pre-set sword manuvers. Now, any swing with the remote will be unique. This is a major breakthrough for the game. Zelda: Twilight Princess controls changed!

A big changed has been made to the play mechanics of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Until now, sword movements were controlled using the B button. According to GoNintendo, Link will now swing his sword when you move the Wiimote. Hopefully this works well and I can't wait to play the full version of the game later this fall.

This program is a must see for all you Nintendo WiFi nuts! This program uses information from the official Nintendo WiFi site to give tons of WiFi info. The program gives much better info than the offical site does. Kevin, the creator of the program did a great job putting the program together. It even contains support for Contact and Star Fox Command which haven't even been released yet! Nintendo confirms free WiFi play on Wii.

While we at BDC assumed that WiFi would work on the Wii exactly like it does on the DS, we never had it confirmed offically from Nintendo...until now. This means that WiiFi (sorry about the bad pun) will be free exactly like WiFi on the DS. Just a note however, this does not mean that Virtual Console games and "bonus" content will also be free.
